As energy and environmental awareness move into the mainstream, Lindsay is changing the way we construct buildings to suit environmentally conscious clients' focus on sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Leadership in Energy Efficient Design is a natural fit at Lindsay.

Our four [plus] decades of Design-Build experience, plus our heavy involvement in building systems that are inherently LEED® compliant, are fundamental to this natural compatibility.

To make the most of this fit, we have focused much effort on LEED® capabilities in recent months. We currently staff several accredited professionals, are adding to our LEED® experience as a Design-Builder, and we have a very keen interest in upcoming Green projects.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building Rating SystemTM is the accepted standard for design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings in North America. By obtaining a LEED® designation, a project has verified its' commitment to sustainability by meeting higher performance standards in environmental responsibility and energy efficiency.

Many of our clients now recognize the importance of sustainable and environmentally responsible development and construction practices; Lindsay is taking the necessary steps to be an industry leader in this field.

HRM - Ragged Lake Transit Centre
(Halifax, Nova Scotia)

Lindsay Construction is pleased to have been awarded the new Ragged Lake Transit Centre for Halifax Regional Municipality.

This 180,000 sq. ft. (total) Design-Build project consists of two Tilt-Up Concrete buildings including a 58,000 sq. ft. Bus Service Centre and a 122,000 sq. ft. Bus Storage Garage which includes 15,000 sq. ft. of administration area.

The Design-Build facility has been designed to LEED® Silver standards with an anticipated construction schedule of 13 months.

The two buildings will help rectify the current demand of HRM and Metro Transit users while facilitating Metro Transit's planned expansion to the Clayton Park and Tantallon areas.

The design will serve up to 150 buses at the time of completion and allows for future expansion to 200 buses in the future.

Dorey Avenue-2
(Burnside Industrial Park - Dartmouth, Nova Scotia)

Lindsay constructed this Design-Build Tilt-Up Concrete building at 122 Dorey Avenue in Burnside Industrial Park, Dartmouth.

This versatile, multi-tenant warehouse facility was constructed to conform to LEED® NC standards and is the first LEED® candidate of its type in Canada.

The multi-tenant leased warehouse is a 63,180 sq. ft. Tilt-Up Concrete building with a 24 ft. clear height. Sandwiched panel walls, underslab insulation, and an R-30 insulated roof contribute to an efficient building envelope.

The primary heat is supplied by a natural gas fired in-floor heating system, with supplementary natural gas unit heaters adjacent to loading bay doors. Site case and erected concrete construction allowed the building to be constructed with a large volume of locally available materials, and a high percentage of recycled content through the reduction of Portland cement in the concrete.

Punched windows around the entire perimeter of the building, at 20 ft. high, will provide up to 75% daylighting in the space. This is enhanced by the supplemental skylights to make up for losses caused by racking inside the warehouse.

Lighting is designed with high-efficiency fluorescents, dimmers, and motion sensors to supplement the daylighting available through the glazing.
