Purdy's Wharf - Parking Garage
(Halifax Waterfront, Nova Scotia)
Purdy's Wharf is the premier development in Halifax and incorporates two office towers, a low-rise professional building, a 1,200 vehicle pre-cast concrete parkade, and three elevated pedways. This project was constructed over a seven-year period with all buildings having deep pile foundations. The two office towers are located in Halifax Harbour, on caisson foundations with state-of-the-art mechanical systems using seawater for cooling.
The parkade was built in two phases as part of the 2-building office tower complex started in the 1980's. This 7-storey, metal roofed structure was the first major parkade in the Maritimes to use long span, pre-cast construction. The site along Halifax Harbour required a pile supported foundation which added to the complexity. By incorporating site cast topping and concrete seaters the entire structure was protected against future corrosion.
This methodology has now proven to be both durable and long-lasting with low, long-term maintenance costs.
