TILT-UP CONCRETE
Lindsay Tilt-Up Concrete offers a building system with award-winning aesthetics, outstanding durability, and surprising economy.
Since the early 70's, our Tilt-Up specialists have led the region in installation of Tilt-Up Concrete systems and have quickly become the top choice for industrial, commercial, and institutional facilities.
Tilt-Up provides beauty, sophistication, durability, and virtually maintenance-free wall systems. It also has the ability to lower insurance rates and provide each of the following attributes:
- Timeless Durability (Clean & Solid)
- Fast Track Process (Economical)
- Energy Efficiency
- Attractiveness
- Flexibility for Expansion
- Low Operating Costs
- Excellent Security
- Low Cost / Exceptional Value
Tilt-Up is a building system where load bearing exterior wall panels are cast on-site using local labour and materials. Once cast, panels are 'tilted' into place resulting in a precisely fitted, durable, and air-tight structure.
Fewer restrictions for our designers allow imaginative, creative designs without extra costs.

Saint Benedict Parish
(Halifax, Nova Scotia)
To accommodate the amalgamation of three local parishes, this 33,000 sq. ft. Tilt-Up Concrete building comfortably seats 750 parishioners in a spectacular, light-filled, main floor nave with the lower level housing parish offices, a modern kitchen, and community hall.
The church is kept comfortable with geothermal heating and air conditioning providing climate control. Irregular panel shapes and sizes (some up to 52 ft. high), gothic arched windows, and a ceiling peak of
34 ft. from the second storey necessitated extensive scaffolding with crews of all disciplines working around one another to attain the strict completion deadline.
“We’re really excited that the project was completed on schedule and on budget” comments Jack Flemming, President, Ocean Contractors, Chair of the Construction Management Committee for Saint Benedict. Father Bernard O’Neill, who led the project in bringing the three churches together, is also enthusiastic about the final product. “Lindsay is very fortunate to have such a high caliber of committed employees. I would never go with anyone but Lindsay.”

Brooklyn Fire Hall and Civic Centre
(Brooklyn, Nova Scotia)
Brooklyn Fire Hall and Civic Centre is a Design-Build 22,500 sq. ft. 2-storey Tilt-Up Concrete facility housing 5 truck bays, offices/support services, and a single storey community centre on the main level.
Targeting LEED® Gold status, the highly efficient building envelope is outfitted with a geothermal heating and cooling system.
“The new building is a lot bigger and a lot nicer. It’s been a good experience,” comments Rick Sherard, Brooklyn Town Engineer. “If I had questions or concerns I went straight to Lindsay’s Project Manager. He kept me informed and any issues were resolved quickly.”

Sobeys
(Penhorn Mall - Dartmouth, Nova Scotia)
In February of 2009, national grocery retailer Sobeys opened the first Tilt-Up Concrete grocery store, constructed in the Halifax Regional Municipality, in the past 27 years.
This 44,000 sq. ft., single-storey building has an open interior shopping area with mezzanine housing offices, staff lunch room, and a community room for public use.
Brick veneer highlights the building entrance and complements the finished Tilt-Up Concrete panel design.
Lindsay advocates this building system as the optimal solution for grocery stores: it is durable, provides superior insulation, and the load-bearing concrete panels eliminate the need for peripheral support columns creating more useable floor space.
The system also saves time and money. “Using Tilt-Up was a cost-effective decision,” comments Perry Kossatz, Sobeys Construction Manager. “The overall outcome was an appealing store that was completed on time and on budget. The Penhorn Sobeys project, with the Lindsay team, was very successful in achieving the goals of both the builder and the owner.
